Private Tuition

Individual tuition is usually carried out over a 6–7 hour day, starting at about 9.00am and running until approximately 4.00pm. During the day I will explain and demonstrate my approach, including the thinking and techniques I use when creating an oil painting.

The tuition covers composition, preliminary sketching, colour management and mixing, paint application, tonal values, recognition and depiction of light and shadow, and how to work through the stages of a painting. This is a condensed introduction to oil painting suitable for both complete beginners and more experienced painters. Many people choose to book two or three days rather than just one; in these cases we can provide accommodation or suggest nearby alternatives. At times I also take small groups of up to four people.

All paint, art supplies, refreshments and a light lunch are provided. The day should be viewed as an enjoyable and informative experience.
